West Side Café: Go West

If you’re looking for one of the best breakfasts you’ll ever eat, a trip to Waynesville’s West Side Café is in order. A warning right off the bat: this isn’t a fancy eatery for yuppies. But the decor's definitely not the attraction here anyway! This place serves spectacular breakfast dishes at great prices. Some of the most popular offerings on the menu include the great omelets, which are made with your choice of fillings. Get a side of bacon, as well – they fry it up to perfect crispiness. Pancakes, waffles, French toast, and other sweet treats are also well-received. In addition to breakfast, they also offer lunch and dinner service, with excellent burgers and daily specials. Go when the fried catfish is on offer – it’s a favorite.

Jack’s Route 66 Diner: In Classic Style

Sometimes you don’t want anything fancy – just good old-fashioned American food served fast and fresh. Saint Robert’s Jack’s Route 66 Diner is a traditional diner in all the best ways. Inside and out, it evokes the golden era of 1960s diners, with a pressed tin ceilings, Formica tables and cheery, attentive waitresses. As you’d expect, the menu here is heavy on the classics, so if you’re craving a tuna  melt or a great bowl of chili, this is the place to go. The crowds really come here for the spectacular burgers – made from freshly ground beef, hand-formed and grilled to perfection, the wise eater opts for crisp lettuce and bacon on top. Get a side of onion rings, too – they’re very good. Jack’s is a very popular place for locals to gather, so it can sometimes be hard to get seated if you’re in a hurry. Prices are incredibly reasonable and portions are large.

Lamb’s Donuts: Sweet Treats

There’s something about a freshly-made donut that rockets it up to the top when it comes to delicious decadence. The crullers, rings, jelly-filled, and other treats at Lamb’s are light, fresh, and tasty. The donuts here are made fresh every day, and you can watch racks of them come out of the kitchen glistening with glaze and ready to eat. Some of the favorites among locals include the incredible glazed buttermilk, which is perfectly sweetened with just the right amount of buttermilk flavor, as well as the perfect Bavarian crème. Even better, each and every donut is made by hand by Mr. Lamb himself, and you can look through the windows in the back and watch him work the dough to his satisfaction. This is a donut shop with a lot of personality, and it shows in everything they serve.

Stefano’s Pizza and Gyro: Taste of the Mediterranean

Saint Robert’s Stefano’s Pizza and Gyro is a great example of a restaurant that does two national cuisines well. Located in a humble strip mall about a mile from the North Gate of Saint Robert’s Wood, this eatery boasts filling pizzas with a variety of toppings along with an array of Greek favorites. The crust, the core of every good pizza, is exceptional here – thin and flaky, but durable enough to support whatever you want on it. The Mediterranean pizza is also a favorite, boasting spinach, artichokes, and fresh goat cheese. For Greek food, the gyros are excellent, stuffed with perfectly-cooked lamb meat. Stefano's also offers a variety of salads.
